This quilt is inspired by the mosaic mother of pearl, hand carved inlays set into the pew ends at St Barnabas Chapel, Norfolk Island. Each inlay is unique. This magnificent church, circa 1880, is a quilter's dream in regards to the inspiration it offers to quilt designers. Designing this quilt provided an insight into the complexities faced by designers living in an era which lacked the technology we have today. Despite this, making ‘St Barnabas' Pearl uses modern patchwork techniques including hand and machine piecing, Broderie Perse, reverse and needle turn appliqué and foundation piecing. Use of these techniques achieve a beautiful, timeless quilt. It was a joy to design and make this quilt. Finished size - 70” x 66”
