This quilt was inspired by a antique Rising Suns quilt made in South Carolina, USA, circa 1830. The original quilt consisted of 20 Rising Suns blocks pieced in a straight set layout.
When looking for some fabric in my cupboard, I came across the reproduction printed floral wreath from the Early Elegance fabric range which inspired the central block & Broderie Perse blocks within the quilt. Traditional appliqué or Broderie Perse of you own design can be substituted for this fabric.
The quilt is set in a medallion style where each successive ‘corner' alternates between being set on point & straight set. A pieced border separates each section of the quilt and the quilt uses a variety of fabrics to achieve controlled scrappy effect. Finished size - 96" x 96".
