If you are a lover of vintage and antique quilts, I hope you enjoy my site. I specialise in the design and creation of quilts, which are inspired, by quilts of the past. You can view my full catalog here. I am in total awe of the ladies in centuries gone by who designed such magnificent quilts without the modern technologies we have available to us today. I would struggle to design many of the patterns I draft if I had to depend on pencil and paper, not to mention a compass and protractor! I am one of the designers for the newly launched online quilt magazine, OnlineQuilter.com, and in addition to my own designs, I draft patterns for the antique quilts you see on that site. This is a fabulous collection of antique and vintage quilts that spans the decades from 1800 to 1950. The patterns for these quilts will be available here on Michelle Yeo Quilt Designs, with a new pattern each month. These patterns are all accurate reproductions of the original quilt, so that they can be lovingly recreated, even with the quirky inclusions of bygone years.
All the patterns on Michelle Yeo Quilt Designs can be downloaded in pdf. format directly from the site using Paypal, an extremely secure method of payment. This results in instant gratification with no postage attached, so you can start a project as soon as you have organised the fabrics! All you need is Adobe Reader on your computer, which can be down loaded from Adobe at no cost to you. However, if preferred a printed pattern can be ordered and posted to you. Remember to tape the relevant pattern pieces together, if required, by matching the dotted lines at the edges of the pages. Perspex templates are available for some of the projects and can be ordered from Michelle Yeo Quilt Designs. Correct postage will be added to the cost of the sale at the checkout. Templates are available for some of the patterns on this site ( click here to view the list ). These are custom made from 3mm translucent fibre-optic plastic and are great for quick rotary cutting and accurate marking of seam allowances and, therefore, more accurate piecing. All templates come with the seam allowance included and laser marked and with holes at the junction of the seam allowances. They can be used for hand and machine piecing. Rotary cut around the edge of the template, mark through the holes using a fine mechanical pencil, and, if hand piecing use the corresponding edge of the template to join the holes and mark the stitching line. |
We are lucky enough today to have many wonderful fabric designers who specialise in reproduction fabrics. It is these fabrics that I use in my quilts to try and achieve a similar timeless appeal to that of the original quilt. However, the patterns would be just as stunning in more modern fabrics, if this is more the style that suits your décor.
