This quilt is inspired by a number of circular patchwork designs from years gone by. Ballaarat Beauties consists of elements from antique quilts such as New York Beauty, Whig’s Defeat, Georgetown Circle, Mariner's Compass and Sunburst, as well as many original designs. There are 36 blocks, each one of which comprises a pieced quarter circle set into an 8" square. The squares are then straight-set together and the blocks can be laid out to form complete circles or twisted to create different effects. The sample is made from reproduction fabrics, however this quilt would look equally stunning in bright colours or more contemporary fabrics. It is machine foundation pieced for speed and accuracy or could be pieced entirely by hand. This is a very comprehensive pattern consisting of 36 A3 pages of foundation piecing patterns and 9 A4 pages of quilt instructions.
