Today I had a call from Pam at Ballaarat Quilters inviting me to teach my Ballaarat Beauties Quilt again in 2009. It is a great honour to be asked again and I ‘m already looking forward to August next year. This is one weekend that quilters shouldn’t miss! Keep an eye on the Ballaarat Quilters’ website for more information. www.ballaaratquilters.com.au
Last weekend I was lucky enough to teach at the Ballaarat Quilters annual retreat. This was the most well organized workshop I have taught at with every possible detail considered, for both tutors and students alike, to make this a brilliant weekend. The venue and food were fantastic and the participants and organisers were very friendly. Everyone was greeted at registration with a showbag of goodies and the weekend just got better and better.
I taught the 16 ladies in my class a quilt I designed especially for the Ballaarat Quilters, which I called Ballaarat Beauties. It uses the freezer paper foundation piecing method, and everyone caught onto the technique very quickly. The selection of fabrics for the quilts were varied with brights, moderns and reproduction fabrics. This demonstrated the different effects that can be obtained with the use of different styles of fabrics. The end results will all be stunning with 16 very different quilts. I just wish I could be lucky enough to see the completed quilts.
Thankyou to Pam Thompson who approached me to teach at the weekend and who gave me the ‘brief’ for the design. I thoroughly enjoyed drafting and making the quilt and enjoyed my weekend equally as much. Thanks also to all the Ballaarat Quilter’s Committee who made the weekend happen. You should all be proud.
